Treatment for Tongue & Lip Ties
CO2 Laser Frenectomy
A tongue or lip tie release is called a frenectomy, and is a minor surgical procedure involving the removal of frenum to allow for increased mobility and improved range of motion. Once your baby has undergone a functional assessment and caregivers have completed a readiness visit with a specialized therapist, Dr. Hershko will collaborate with your team on the necessity of a frenectomy procedure. On the day of the procedure, Dr. Hershko uses a state-of-the-art CO2 laser to perform a gentle and precise frenectomy. The CO2 laser minimizes bleeding and discomfort, and promotes rapid treatment and healing times. Topical anesthetic is placed and the procedure takes approximately 10-15 seconds. Dr. Hershko does not use sedation or general anesthesia, nor does she use a high heat diode laser or electrocautery for a frenectomy. Babies are able to join their caregivers immediately after the procedure and are encouraged to feed or nurse if needed. Dr. Hershko will review aftercare with baby's caregivers and requests a follow up appointment at one week post procedure.
